The JCTA (Joint Canadian Tanning Association) is a national non-profit organization created to increase understanding of the professional tanning industry's scientifically supported position that regular moderate ultra-violet exposure from sunshine or sunbed in a non-burning fashion is part of a responsible lifestyle that recognizes both the inherent benefits and the manageable risks associated with ultraviolet light exposure.
Kelowna – February 1, 2012 – The Joint Canadian Tanning Association today urged Canadian sunbed operators and employees to limit claims being made about the benefits of indoor sunbathing.
Kelowna --- July 07 --- The Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA) must think the average Canadian doesn’t understand the risk of overexposure to UV light. Recently in a media video, they compared a toaster to sophisticated indoor commercial sunbathing equipment – which in JCTA salons is by and large controlled by a highly trained certified operator. Simply put there is no comparison, just fear and misinformation.
Kelowna BC – June 15 - Canada’s dermatology industry lobbying group Friday called tanning beds “an inefficient” source of vitamin D in an apparent attempt to mislead Canadians about the relative sources of vitamin D.
KELOWNA --- June 2, 2011 --- Should Canadians seeking to avoid sunburns this summer opt for a base tan as a first line of defence instead of a chemical sunscreen? That is the question being asked by the Joint Canadian Tanning Association (JCTA).
JCTA is marking its third annual Tan Awareness Week this week with an educational campaign designed to encourage intelligent sun care and sunburn prevention, rather than total sun abstinence. Tan Awareness Week was created to dispel misconceptions regarding moderate sun exposure.
KELOWNA, BC, Dec. 8 /CNW/ - The Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) and other lobbyists misrepresented melanoma research in a press release today, misapplying statistics gathered from studies of unsupervised home tanning units and falsely alleging that they apply to professional indoor tanning facilities in Canada.
According to Canadian research published in the journal Public Health, by Edmonton vitamin D researcher Dr. Gerry Schwalfenberg, regular sunbed users and those who take high-dosage vitamin D supplements, have the highest vitamin D levels in Canada. Those who do not take supplements and who report receiving minimal sun exposure had the lowest vitamin D levels.

KELOWNA, B.C. (June 9) – Canadians have a free new on-line tool to help everyone better understand effective outdoor sunburn prevention. The Joint Canadian Tanning Association this week launched www.SkinType.ca as a public service to teach everyone what professional indoor tanning facilities already teach their clients: How to avoid sunburn by understanding your genetic skin type.
JCTA Response: The CCS promotes that we promote that tanning is safe. Control is the key, everything in moderation. Is drinking a glass of red wine safe? Not according to the WHO. I wonder what the CCS has to say about red wine
Kelowna – February 8, 2010 – The Joint Canadian Tanning Association (JCTA) is calling on provincial governments across Canada to work with the indoor tanning industry to formalize appropriate regulations related to the operation of indoor tanning equipment.
